H2Open Newsletter – Six open water swimming tips from someone who's 'escaped' more than 1,000 times

We're putting the finishing touches to our October/November edition of H2Open magazine, which goes to press tomorrow and should be with subscribers by the end of next week. See below for a preview of the cover.

We're also hoping for good weather for the weekend as we'll be at Swim Serpentine, probably our last big event of the year. Both Jonathan, our editor, and I are swimming on Saturday in the one mile mass participation swim and on Sunday in the 3.3km non-wetsuit (hopefully the water temperature will still be above 16 degrees) British Championship race. Wish us luck and hopefully see lots of you there.

As the UK summer season winds up, our thoughts are already turning to 2017. We've decided to start next year with a bang and have put in a team entry for 2Swim4Life, which takes place in April. We'll each be swimming 12 miles in 24 hours, so that should keep us motivated to train over the winter.

However, it's also important to take a break from swimming, especially if you do a lot of training. The autumn is a great time to ease back for a few weeks, take stock of where you are and think about what you want to do next year. If you've got anything interesting planned (swimming wise), please let us know so that we can share your story.

Happy swimming
