Last weekend Simon and I were at new event Swim
Serpentine, a two-day festival of swimming comprising a one-mile mass participation swim and the British Open Water Swimming Championships. We competed in both with wildly differing results (he won, I posted a lifetime personal worst). Illness and a lack of training meant I was eight minutes off my expected time in the 3.3km Championships, but I didn't care. It was a lovely swim with a great atmosphere. I saw seagulls overhead and swam next to a swan. The sun shone and
afterwards there were hot tubs and a sauna. Who cares about your time when there is so much to experience when swimming outdoors? Simon also came to the same conclusion, although by a slightly different (and more medal-strewn
route). The October/November edition of H2Open hits the shops next Thursday – and it's another top issue. An annual subscription to H2Open magazine costs less than a pair of goggles – and you can get your first three issues for just £8.70 when you pay by direct debit.
