After seeing world records tumble and some brilliant swimming in the pool in Rio, we’re getting excited for next week’s marathon swimThe Olympic 10km swimming events take place on the 15 and 16 August – check out our guide to the swimmers to watch.
Later this week I will be crewing for reader Tom Keen on his English Channel solo crossing. We will be following his swim with live streaming on our Facebook page, so if you want to experience swimming the Channel from the comfort of your armchair then tune in. He hopes to start swimming on Thursday or Friday night.

Sensational Swimcation

Three months till the 5th Barbados Open Water Festival! 

When? The races are Nov 5-6 (1.5K, 5K, 10K, 10K Relay). 

Venue? The magnificent and historic Carlisle Bay.

Any practice swims? Yes. Nov 2,3,4. Approx.  2Km each. 

Swim Clinics? Yes. Alex Meyer, former World Champion (25K), Olympian, US National Champion will conduct clinics on Nov 5.  

Who swims? Recreational to elite swimmers of all ages (typically from ages 8 to about 86 years old) and from all over the world. A wonderful mix of serious and seriously fun swimmers, the camaraderie is heartwarming. 

Age categories? Yes. 

Prizes? Yes.

After-Party? Boat cruise Nov 7!

Swim the Solent with Aspire

The Aspire Solent swim challenges individuals to swim the 2 ½ miles from Gosport to Ryde Sands while helping support people paralysed by Spinal Cord Injury.

Dates for 2016 are:
- 13 August: one way swim across the Solent in either direction
- 10 September: two way crossing (starting at Fort Gilkicker)
- 24 September: one way swim across the Solent in either direction
