It was the last chance for open water Olympic qualification at Setúbal at the weekend, which proved to be a thrilling all-out race in both the men's and women's 10km events. The start line
for Rio is now complete, with Keri-anne Payne and Jack Burnell both set to swim for Great Britain. We will have a full breakdown of the swimmers and medal hopes in the August/September issue of the magazine.
Away from the world of elite swimming, we were at the Great North Swim at the weekend, where thousands of people took to the open water for the first time. It was eight years ago
at the Great North Swim that I had my first experience of outdoor swimming – hopefully those thousands of first timers will go on to become as hooked as I am now!
Here in the H2Open office we are trying to reduce the amount of waste we produce, and I have been attempting not to consume single-use plastics for the duration of June. It is a really tough task – but as swimmers I think it
is especially important that we try to reduce marine pollution. In Simon's blog this week he looks at different ways we can keep our waterways and seas fit for swimming. Enjoy the newsletter and
happy swimming.
