H2Open Newsletter - Nothing great is easy

Published: Wed, 04/06/16

Nothing great is easy. It is the mantra of Channel swimmers, but you don't have to swim the Channel to learn from it. In this week's blog, Simon looks at how swimming can be good practice for the rest of your life.
As you may have read in last weeks's newsletter, after a few months not swimming I am now trying to get swimfit in time for the summer. One of the best ways to improve your swimming is to swim with a masters club – I already swim with one and am contemplating joining a second! If you want to know more about training with a club then download Back in the Box, our free guide to training and racing as a masters swimmer.
The June/July H2Open/Selklie Reader Photo Contest is now open. We have already had some amazing pictures sent in for our first two contests. Send us your best open water swimming shots to be in with a chance of having them published in the next issue of H2Open magazine – and win a bundle of kit from Selkie. See our website for full details of how to enter the contest.
Enjoy the newsletter and happy swimming,
Jonathan Cowie

RLSS UK Open Water Festival
The Royal Life Saving Society UK’s Open Water Festival is returning to Ragley Hall, Warwickshire on Sunday 22 May 2016 after the success of its first event last year.

Ragley Crawl allows swimmers to tackle a one-mile, half-mile or team relay course to encourage first time dippers to regular participants to get in and enjoy the freedom of the open water.

RLSS UK has also organised a Rookie Raid, a 200m swim and a 400m run for eight to 12-year-olds to ensure kids can also get in on the action at the family event.

This is a fantastic opportunity for participants to swim in the grounds of one of the country’s premier stately homes. Swimmers can also take the opportunity to get sponsored and raise funds to help RLSS UK with its work as the drowning prevention charity.
