[H2Open Newsletter] - Back to Basics – Kick and Pull

Published: Wed, 02/24/16

Every Friday on Facebook we ask 'what are your swimming plans this weekend?'. From 10k competitive swims in New Zealand to dips in Scottish lochs, the answers are always varied and often slightly random. It is one of the joys of open water swimming – one week you might be competing in an organised race, the next weekend wild swimming with your friends. This weekend Simon and I are taking part in two very different events. On Friday I travel to Estonia for the Pirita Open Winter Swimming Festival in Tallinn, where I will be 'competing' in the 50m and 100m freestyle. In 1 degree Celsius water. Whereas Simon will be swimming indoors in heated pools, but knocking out 31 miles in 31 pools over six days. We'll let you know how we both get on in next week's newsletter (if I've thawed out by then).
We also want to hear from you for our letters page – email us your letters and winter swimming pics to be in with a chance of being featured in the magazine and winning great prizes.
This week's training article from Triathlon Europe head coach Fiona Ford takes us back to basics by concentrating on kick and pull. Plus, Simon reminds us that there is more to swimming than just technique and training – remember to have fun too!
Enjoy the newsletter and happy swimming,
