[H2Open Newsletter] - Add purpose to your swim training sessions

Published: Wed, 12/09/15

What do you in think about when you are swimming? If you want to become a more efficient swimmer it might pay to think about technique rather than what you want for your tea. This week in our training section we have some tips from Team GB coach David Hemmings on how to focus on technique in your training sessions. We also have advice on how to swim faster by protecting your lower back, and we look at the evidence behind training on empty.
Have you ever thought about trying an obstacle race? The only swimming involved might be scrambling through a water-logged ditch, but they do look like a lot of fun. The Christmas issue of H2Open magazine is now on sale in WH Smiths and includes a free copy of Obstacle Race Magazine.
Do you need some help to achieve a swimming goal? Do you have an injury niggle, technique query or need some nutrition advice? Email  editor@h2openmagazine.com for our next Ask the Experts feature.
In the news this week we have a video of the world's highest swim, and there is also still time to enter our two competitons to win a Dryrobe and a trip to BestFest in Mallorca.
Enjoy the newsletter and happy swimming!

Chillswim to host WOWSA Awards
Chillswim are hosting the World Open Water Swimming Awards with a Gala Dinner featuring Lewis Pugh as guest speaker, on Friday 5th February, as part of the Big Chill Swim International Winter Swimming World Cup. Lewis Pugh is the United Nations Patron of the Oceans, swam across the icy waters of the North Pole to highlight the melting of the Arctic sea ice, and across a glacial lake on Mt Everest to draw attention to the impact of climate change on the Himalayan glaciers.

The World Open Water Swimming Awards (WOWSA) are presented in four categories: Man, Woman, Performance, and Offering of the Year. Tickets are available in advance and everyone is welcome to celebrate with some of the world’s greatest open water swimmers.
