We sent the August issue of Outdoor Swimmer magazine to the printer last Thursday and it will be posted to subscribers this week. Look out this month for how Diane Struble conquered Lake George in 1958, training sessions to fine tune
your catch for a more efficient front crawl, how to deal with a slump in your performance and meet four artists who’ve been inspired by swimming. The new issue will be in shops from 2 August but if you don't want to wait, you can order a copy from us now.
While like many of you I'm loving this long spell of hot dry weather, I do find myself longing for a spot of rain. The Thames near where I live is at the lowest level I have ever seen it, and the water is amazingly clear and the quality good, but are we going to reach a point where the quality deteriorates? The Thames, like many rivers, carries effluent from sewage treatment works. Normally, natural flows dilute
this effluent to levels where it's not harmful. We've been working with The London Waterkeeper, a charity that has a vision of a Thames fit for swimming, to do occasional spot tests of water quality. Watch this space for updates. Finally, many thanks to Zone 3 for sponsoring this week's newsletter. Please check out their offers, including an exclusive 20% discount for Outdoor Swimmer readers. Just use code OUTDOORSWIMMER20.
