I heard that 17 Dec is the day when most people give up on their New Year Resolutions. I don't know where that fact comes from or if it's true, but I observe an influx of new swimmers in my local pool every January, most of whom have vanished by February.
If you're new to
swimming this year, or returning after a break, don't be discouraged if, after 17 days, you're finding it hard. It will get easier and more enjoyable as you become more at home in the water. Just keep swimming.
At Outdoor Swimmer HQ this week, we're putting together the final pages for our February issue, which goes to press at the weekend and should start arriving with subscribers from around 26 January. Things to look out for include:
our top tips to stay motivated and keep swimming fun through February; an interview with William Thomson who piled his family and dog into a camper van, toured Britain while working from 'home' and has written a fascinating book about tides; why it's a good thing to build a social network around your swimming; and getting to grips with the relationship between stroke count, stroke length and speed. In addition, we've updated our listings with the new events we've found so you have even
more challenges to choose from.
Enjoy the newsletter and happy swimming,
