One Mile Training Plan, FINA Wetsuit Ruling and the Loch Ness Monster

The August issue of Outdoor Swimmer is out now! In our new issue we test wild swimming wetsuits, meet ultra marathon swimmer Jaimie Monahan (whose latest feat was swimming 57 miles twice around Manhattan Island at the weekend!), show you how to have a glow-in-the-dark swim, give you tips to boost your self-confidence as an athlete and Total Immersion's Terry Laughlin writes movingly about living – and swimming – with cancer. Plus, nutrition, training, swimrun wetsuits, event reviews, club news and wild swimming spots. You can buy your copy in selected WH Smiths or order directly from us

At the weekend it was the Swim England National Open Water Festival at Rother Valley Country Park with 1.5k, 3k, 5k and team races. As the water temperature was 18 degrees FINA's new wetsuit ruling was implemented for the first time at the event. In Behind the Headlines we look at the research behind the controversial ruling, which states that wetsuits are mandatory below 18 degrees and optional below 20 degrees.

Enjoy this week's newsletter and happy swimming.
