Stroke Symmetry, DIY Training Camp and Wild Swimming in Devon

Published: Wed, 08/09/17

It has been a week of big news in the marathon swimming community: in an awe-inspiring swim, Caroline Block finished just short of a two-way North Channel crossing; Chloë McCardel announced her new world record attempt – a four-way English Channel crossing; and, as I write, Sarah Thomas is on her way to a historic 100-mile swim in Lake Champlain. Follow her progress here as she attempts the longest, unassisted, current-neutral swim ever.

We were also saddened to hear of the death of Douglas Waymark, who died while attempting to swim the English Channel on Monday. The experienced endurance athlete was half-way through the Arch to Arc extreme triathlon.

In this week's newsletter Olympic open water swimmer Cassie Patten explains how to work on your rotation, hand entry and recovery for a more symmetrical stroke; we show you how to structure your own intensive training week; and we explore Devon in our readers' favourite wild swimming spots.

Enjoy the newsletter and happy swimming.
