Well that came around quickly! Our switch from bi-monthly to monthly publication has halved the time between issues. It seems we've only just delivered Issue 1 of Outdoor Swimmer and tomorrow we're due to send Issue 2 to the printer.
The theme for our second
issue is training and we've expanded our regular "Performance Zone" section of the magazine to include additional plans for doing your own intensive training week along with our regular sessions from Fiona Ford. Meanwhile, Terry Laughlin looks at how you can accelerate your technique improvement process by engaging your brain better. Also on the theme of using your head, Helen Davis looks at how you can improve your performance by viewing your swim event as a challenge rather than a
threat.
We've been inspired this month by Gavin Maitland, who underwent a double lung transplant at the age of 41 and now swims with his daughter to raise funds and awareness for transplant research. And Jenny Landreth had us giggling with her "Advice for Women", based on some historic documents she uncovered while researching her latest book.
And if all of that isn't
enough, we've also got the second and final part of our "Beginner's Guide to Outdoor Swimming". This pull-out section looks at and debunks some common open water myths, talks you through your first mass participation swimming race, includes a training plan for your first mile swim and introduces the joys of adventure swimming.
Finally, we'd love you to join our Outdoor Swimmer Spring Clean campaign this weekend. All you need to do is spend a few minutes cleaning your local swim spot, and share the pictures with us on Facebook or Twitter. I was doing a spot of litter picking yesterday by the Thames near Teddington Lock (see below) #OutdoorSwimmerSpringClean
Enjoy the newsletter and happy swimming.
