Winter swimming can be magical: frosty mornings, bright sunshine and the thrill of freezing water on skin. But it can also be intimidating, even for experienced outdoor swimmers. As Outdoor Swimmer founder and publisher Simon Griffiths discusses below, you don't need to do an ice mile to be a winter swimmer. A quick dip
followed by coffee and cake is just as legitimate a winter swim.
As our de facto correspondent for all things cold and a bit off the beaten track, I was sent to the Czech Republic at the weekend to take part in the Prague Winter Swimming Race Weekend and Kryathlon. On the Saturday I took part in a 500m swim down the Vltava river in 2 degree Celsius water. By the next day the water temperature had dropped to 1.5 degrees in time for the
kryathlon – swim, run, ski. Watch the video below and read about the whole adventure in the April issue of Outdoor Swimmer.
