There is much evidence to suggest that outdoor swimming helps promote good mental health. Katie Maggs suffered from a breakdown caused by being burnt out. The stresses of everyday life became too much and she spiralled into depression. Katie explains how swimming in the sea helped her to gradually rebuild parts of herself that had been lost.
