Dear fellow swimmers
Does anyone else feel like as soon as we get to April it is like the year is running out? Next week we are going to be sending the May issue of the magazine to the printers and suddenly time seems to be moving very fast.
I am a bit of a lazy swimmer in the cooler months, I enjoy cold dips and
dunks, but not much swimming happens, and every year I vow to keep in better shape so when the warmer weather returns I am raring to go, but here we are again and I feel very unprepared for the season ahead. This year I am signed up to tackle the Bantham Boomerang and so now the evenings are lighter I will be making the most of my local lake to train.
Last weekend my family and I tested a load of Vango camping kit for the May issue. We
really put it to test in high-winds and cooler air temperatures than anticipated. The biggest challenge with camping and swimming is the fear of never getting warm again and the fact it is hard to dry wet kit. Due to the tide times and wind, the sea wasn't in great shape for a swim, so I spent more time looking at the water than swimming in it. It is a great reminder that spring is a fickle season and swimming isn't always guaranteed – go easy out there and remember there will always be another
day or opportunity, no swim is worth putting yourself at risk.
