Dear fellow swimmers
Swim for Earth Day
Earth Day 2026 takes place on 22 April, and this year’s theme, “Our Power, Our Planet” reminds us that environmental progress is driven by individual actions.
One simple action you can take is to join our April swim
challenge: in partnership with Climategames, your swims are converted into verifiable environmental impact. This month we’re supporting kelp planting and seaforestation in British Columbia. Please use this link from your phone to get the Climategames app and join in.
Swimming &
ageing
You may have seen in the news that Jane Asher recently set five new masters swimming world records in the 95-99 year age group. I first met Jane about 12 years ago and thought she was in her 60s, not her 80s! Swimming is definitely an activity we do to help us push back
against the effects of increasing years. I recently spoke with some record-breaking Australian swimmers about how they continue to train and race into their 80s and 90s. If you’re looking for some inspiration take a look at this.

Easter outdoor swimming
It looks like this Easter weekend will be much cooler than last year’s. The Thames near Teddington is still only around 10 degrees and will be colder further upstream. Although it’s officially spring and everything looks beautiful, if you’re heading outside for a swim please be mindful of the conditions. The cool breeze will make it harder than usual to warm up again afterwards. It’s a lovely time of year to be in the water but – for most of
us – a little too cold to start building up the distance.
Finally, our monthly draw for free swims is coming up on Thursday 16 April. Make sure you become a member of Outdoor Swimmer to be in with a chance of winning!
