Dear fellow swimmers
It’s been a busy week for us with press deadline, an online event, and the temptation of spring sunshine drawing us towards the open water. But if you are swimming this weekend, don’t be fooled by the brighter days. The water is still fresh. I recorded 10.1ºC at my swim spot yesterday.
Don’t be Prey
Thank you to everyone who joined last Wednesday’s event with Mark Sowerby. We always appreciate your thoughtful questions and comments. Mark is an Oceans Seven swimmer and the protagonist of Don’t be Prey, a film documenting his journey from the trauma of the destruction of his business to recovery through marathon swimming.
As well as offering us insights into the meaning of resilience in ocean swimming – and life – we explored the significance
behind the film’s title and whether he thought the graphic details some swimmers experienced on these swims would put people off ocean swimming.
The film is on general release for a short time in UK cinemas from this weekend and is well worth a watch.
Swimmable Cities
We’re delighted to share that Outdoor Swimmer is now an Official Signatory to the Swimmable Cities Charter. This is timely for us as our April issue, which has just gone to press, is themed around urban swimming. Water
brings life into cities and, where safe and possible, should be made accessible to swimmers and other water users, for fun, health and wellbeing. The more we use our waterways, the more we will take care of them, and so it’s better for our cities too. Find out more.
