Dear fellow swimmers
Summer is nearly over - but outdoor swimming isn't
If you're in the UK, you may be lamenting the end of summer. After a baking bank holiday Monday,
the weather has turned cooler. It's noticeably darker in the morning and evening. Schools are about to go back.
Luckily, outdoor water temperatures, especially in the sea, should stay warm a little longer. In Dover, September almost matches August, and October can be similar to July.
So don't give up on your longer outdoor swims just yet. We'll have plenty of time to start thinking about winter swimming later in the year.
If you're looking for an event, check out our listings.
Or organise your own: conditions and pollution levels permitting, I'm planning to do a long
river swim in the Thames this weekend.
But it will be nothing like as long as the one the team from Surfers Against Sewage have put together for their epic Thames Relay next week - go along and support them if you can.
Nor will it be as long as Rebekah Kefford's inspiring swim from Red Sands Forts.
But even if you are a long-distance swimmer, remember there are lots of benefits to sprinting.
