Dear fellow swimmers
What makes a long swim?
We've just sent the September issue of Outdoor Swimmer magazine to the printer. The theme is long distance swimming.

In my View from the Water, I ask, "what is a long swim?" In essence, I suggest it's defined by your experience, enjoyment and interest.
But after reading this week's news stories, I'm starting to wonder if I'm just lazy 😅. Take a look at what Bárbara Hernández and Clair Harris
have just accomplished, and prepare to be inspired.
🌊 Double Channel Crossing
At the end of July, Bárbara Hernández, who featured in our April issue, swam to France and back, becoming the first South American woman to complete this double. But
it wasn't trouble free.

🌊 All the Lakes - in four days
Earlier in July, Claire Harris did something amazing: she swam the length of every publicly accessible lake in the Lake District, in four days. What's more, she swam without a wetsuit and cycled between the lakes - oh, and
she's 60 too.

The Thames Swim Against Sewage
At the beginning of September, eight world class athletes will be attempting a continuous relay swim along the Thames, from close the source to Putney, to support action for cleaner rivers.

My little swim from Hampton Court to Teddington Lock last Sunday suddenly feels very tame in comparison - but it was fun!
Whatever distances you swim, I hope you enjoy every stroke.
