Dear fellow swimmers
Keep your event mementos: they are more than dust collectors
Last weekend, I was supposed to be swimming in Brighton, but the event was cancelled due to the weather. With a free
morning suddenly on my hands, I found myself tidying my office, and wondering what to do with the shelf full of swimming mementos. Medals, tankards, certificates… all gathering dust, yet each one holding a story.
As I picked them up, memories came flooding back: tough swims, beautiful locations, and the incredible people I’ve met through outdoor
swimming. What started as a bit of cleaning turned into a quiet celebration of everything swimming has brought into my life. It made me think about why we keep these things, and what they really mean.
So, if you’re new to swimming, make sure you keep your mementos. And if you already have a cupboard full of them, put them on display and enjoy the
memories they inspire.
