What principles or beliefs guide
your approach to swimming?
For me – and possibly for you – swimming is much more than a sport or recreational activity. Beyond the obvious boost to our health, fitness and wellbeing, swimming gives us less tangible but valuable benefits such as self-discipline, the opportunity to pursue excellence, adventures and personal
discovery, to name a few.
The more you immerse yourself in swimming, the more you appreciate its potential to provide a guiding framework for life. To achieve that, examine the principles or beliefs that guide your approach to swimming.
If you haven’t done this before, take a moment now. What comes to mind? Use the questions below as prompts, if it helps.
How do you feel about your swimming ability? How much scope do you believe you have for development and improvement?
What about your approach to training? Are you curious and mindful or do you only do what you’re told?
Have you pigeonholed yourself as a certain type of swimmer or do you experiment and enjoy a wide range of swimming-related activities?
Is swimming just something you do or is it a core
part of your being from which you draw broader lessons for life?
Thinking about these questions and more led me to create the Renaissance Swimmer project. The term “Renaissance Swimmer” captures much of how I feel about swimming and how I approach it.
For example, one of the Renaissance ideals is that of personal growth and excellence. Among other things, the Renaissance Swimmer project challenges you to bring this into your swimming practice. It encourages dedication and continuous improvement in both your physical and mental approach to swimming, and a belief that you can make a difference through mindful practice.
Take the time to examine your beliefs about swimming. It should lead you to a more meaningful and purposeful relationship with the sport.
Full access to the Renaissance Swimmer project costs just £29.95. This is a one-off payment. There are no hidden costs or additional charges.
On signing up you get full and immediate access to everything on the Renaissance Swimmer
website. You also receive a 16-week email series to keep you motivated on your swimming journey. You can then bookmark and save these emails and proceed at your own pace. Treat it like a guide book you can return to any time you need.
