Dear Swimmer

Is any sport as age-inclusive as swimming? Because it is, you can share it with any friends or family members.

Taking part in Swimathon with my family was so special. Between us, we swam 5km of our local pool. Armed with Haribo at either end to help him count the lengths, even four-year-old Caspar swam 400m - we were all so proud!

Since the 1980s, the annual Swimathon has brought 750,000 swimmers together in UK pools to fundraise more than £55m for charity.

Swimathon 2025 returns on 28-30 March 2025 in more than 480 swimming pools across the UK. It fundraises for partner charities Marie Curie and Cancer Research UK.

Although Swimathon is hosted in swimming pools, outdoor venues are leading the way this year.

"The event has a league table of entries, so everyone can see which pools are attracting the most Swimathon participants so far," says the organisers. "Four or the top 5 pools are outdoor venues, with only the London Aquatics Centre ahead of London Fields Lido, Hathersage Swimming Pool, Charlton Lido and Sea Lanes Brighton."

Swimathon is open to all participants at more than 480 pools around the UK.

Distances range from 400m to the Swimathon 5k. There is even a Triple 5k for swimmers who want to attempt 3 Swimathon 5ks over the weekend.

There are also team challenges: Team 5k and Team 1.5k, where teams of 2-5 swimmers take on the distance together.
