Meet Lorraine Candy: mum, journalist, editor, author, podcaster and swimmer

After learning front crawl in her late forties, Lorraine Candy took on a series of open water swimming challenges including a 6-person relay of Lake Geneva, the Bantham Swoosh and, most recently, the Scilly Isle Swim Challenge (which you can read about in the October issue of Outdoor Swimmer).

As well as satisfying her quest for adventure, she finds open water swimming has helped her cope with the challenges of mid-life and menopause.

Ella Foote, Outdoor Swimmer's editor, is currently reading Lorraine's new book: "What's Wrong With Me". She'll be interviewing Lorraine live at this event as well as fielding questions from the audience.

Lorraine Candy is an award-winning journalist, author, editor and podcaster. Formerly the editor-in-chief of Sunday Times Style, ELLE and Cosmopolitan she co-hosts the chart-topping weekly podcast Postcards From Midlife. Her first book "Mum, What's Wrong With you? 101 Things Only The Mothers of Teenage Girls Know’ was a Sunday Times Top 10 bestseller. Her current book: "What's Wrong With me?: From unravelling to reinvention, a midlife memoir" is out in paperback now.

Lorraine regularly writes for newspapers and magazines including The Guardian, The Telegraph, The Mail, The Independent, Grazia and Good Housekeeping. She is a mother of four with over a decade’s experience writing columns on parenting and women's issues.

She is an advisor to The Tate art galleries and on the media advisory board of the education charity TheirWorld. 

Lorraine is a keen open-water swimmer: She completed a 6-person relay of Lake Geneva in 2017 after learning front crawl in her late forties. She has taken part in the Henley mile, Bantham Swoosh and Scilly Isle Swim Challenge (2-day) and swims regularly at Parliament Hill lido in London and Shepperton Lake. She is a dog lover and grew up in Cornwall.
