Meet Dan Wallace: Olympian & Channel swimmer

This summer, Dan Wallace swam across the English Channel. You might think this would be easy for an Olympic swimmer. But if you watch the video from his swim, you will see how much he struggled, and how close he came to giving up.

Dan has also embraced winter swimming and has taken part in several ice swimming championships.

This is unusual. Not many elite swimmers take up ice and marathon swimming in retirement.

We're looking forward to meeting Dan and asking him about how he made the transition. What preconceptions did he have? How has taking up outdoor swimming changed his views of the sport? And what will he do next?

Dan Wallace is a Scottish and British swimmer who has made waves both in and out of the pool. His international accolades include a gold medal at the 2015 World Aquatics Championships and a silver medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics in the 4x200-meter freestyle relay. At the Commonwealth Games, Dan secured five medals, including gold in the 400-meter individual medley at the 2014 Glasgow Games.

In addition to his competitive career, Dan has demonstrated his endurance and commitment to charity. In 2023, he swam the English Channel as part of a relay team, raising £250,000 for charity, and in 2024, he completed the challenge solo. Beyond swimming and, alongside his former training partner Connor Mollison, he co-founded Swimmr, a platform aimed at making elite swimming techniques more accessible to swimmers worldwide. With Swimmr, he helps swimmers of all levels enhance their skills through innovative online programs, ensuring that professional-level coaching is available to anyone, anywhere.
