Dear fellow swimmers

In The Dip this weekend, we interview Swedish adventurer Jari Tammi (67) who's embarking on an 8,000km unsupported swim from Istanbul to Cadiz that's estimated to take him seven years. Jari tells us how he’s sold or given away nearly all his possessions (including his house) and carries everything he has left in a floating waterproof bag. This is one of the most thought-provoking Zoom events we’ve done and is well worth a listen.

TIP OF THE WEEK: IF AT FIRST YOU DON'T SUCCEED, TRY AGAIN – BUT DIFFERENTLY
 

Whether it’s a challenge you didn’t complete or a race where you didn’t perform to your expectations, failure is part and parcel of swimming, especially if you step beyond your comfort zone. But remember, every failure is a learning opportunity. Take note of the lesson so that when you try again, you can make the necessary changes. This might be adjustments to your training (e.g. more acclimatisation) or changes on event day (nutrition strategy, pacing, choice of kit etc.). Make the changes systematically based on your hypothesis of what went wrong before. Try not to make too many changes at once!
