TIP OF THE WEEK: DON'T BE AFRAID TO CHANGE YOUR TRAINING SESSION IF IT ISN'T GOING TO PLAN
Sometimes you get to the pool and it seems as if the clock has sped up. Your pace doesn't match what it normally is for your effort level.
Here are some options:
1. Try harder. Sometimes a brief high-effort swim can shift you into another gear. But use with caution. A common reason for swimming slowly is fatigue, even if you don't feel tired. Your body may need to ease off not
push harder.
2. Continue at the same effort level and not worry about the speed. Sometimes you just need a bit longer to get going. You may find you get faster without trying hard. But if not...
3. Ease off. If you find you are getting slower the longer you swim, this is a sure sign of fatigue. Do what your body needs.
4. Don't get out immediately. Instead, swim slowly, do some drills, focus on technique, and enjoy the sensation of being in the water.
5. Refuel, rehydrate and
rest. Try again another day.
