Dear fellow swimmers I had a fantastic time at the Arla Great North Swim last weekend. Windermere was at its dazzling best. Every year the Great North Swim introduces thousands of people to the thrill of mass
participation swimming events. I spent an enjoyable afternoon in the event village listening to people's swimming stories and being reminded of the difference swimming can make to our lives. On the theme of changing lives and inspiring new challenges, Kate Steels pilots a new swimming challenge from Hurst Castle to the Needles, raising an astonishing amount for a cause close to her heart; Lionel Spittle and David Rock share their top tips for preparing for a relay swim in the English Channel; and photographer Ana Elisa Sotelo van Oordt wins an award for her long-term photography project that documents groups of women swimming in open water in Latin America. Meanwhile, our editorial team has been busy this week sending the July issue to print, which focuses on the joys of river swimming. While one of our Digital Journalists
team, Jo Tinsley, has been celebrating the publication of her first solo book, The Slow Traveller. Jo has written a piece about how adopting a slow travel mindset has inspired her travels by water for the July issue, but if you can’t wait until then you can order a copy of her book here. |

UNTIL NEXT TIME...At Windermere, I actually did the Great North Swimrun, middle distance. I love the combination of open water swimming with trail running and I recommend giving it a go.
This weekend I'll be in North Wales for two more swimruns with LoveSwimRun and WeSwimRun. Maybe see some of you there? Happy swimming
