Dear fellow swimmers
Ella and I got involved in a protest swim this week with the Teddington Bluetits, who swim in the Thames near Teddington Lock. Thames Water recently announced plans to abstract water from the river close to where they swim and replace it with treated effluent. We’ll be digging deeper into that story soon but in the meantime the local Bluetits created a petition and invited the BBC to their protest. They don’t hang around when their feathers are ruffled. I ended up doing another nerve-wracking media interview and also helped out
with the in-water filming. I love that the simple activity of swimming can unite people around environmental causes and help improve the quality of our waterways.
Finally, love it or loathe it, Valentine’s Day does give us a good excuse to spoil our loved ones. Treat your Valentine to a gift subscription and each month they will receive a lovingly-made magazine packed with outdoor swimming ideas and motivation, expert training and technique and inspiring swimmers' stories. It's all your loved one will need to dive into the wonderful world of outdoor swimming.
Warm wishes
