Fireworks, golden leaves, and pumpkin spice – it must be November! This month we look at the change of seasons and explore winter swimming. I have a funny relationship with winter. I hate the dark, short days and consistent grey weather. But I do love really cold snaps, with frost and blue skies. 

Whether it is your first winter of outdoor swimming or you’re more experienced, this month’s issue is packed with information and inspiration. Jonathan Cowie speaks to Dr Susanna Søberg about her new book and cold-water traditions around the world; Emma Pusill celebrates the lidos who are embracing the colder season; BBC weather expert Kate Kinsella tells us what conditions we can expect; and Rowan Clarke learns about those swimming at the end of the world.

As well as the cool content, there is plenty of other swim stories to entertain and inspire. New Netflix film, The Swimmers, is out this month and I sit down with the director Sally El Hosaini and Olympic swimmer Yusra Mardini whose story is brought to life. Jack Bright recounts the story of a swim that celebrated a daring escape from communist Czechoslovakia and Laura Hall heads to Greenland on our travel pages.
